Happy World Blogger Day!

“Blog” is short for “weblog,” defined as a “regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style.”
The world’s very first weblog is credited to Justin Hall, who started an online journal in 1994, before Google even existed. Then in 1999, Peter Merholz playfully broke “weblog” into “we blog” on his site’s sidebar, and the name stuck.
Fast Forward to Today
There are an estimated 600+ million blogs out of over 1.9 billion websites worldwide! That’s a lot of people with something to say.
So, like many underappreciated creative communities, we established our own celebration – World Blogger Day – a community-created observance that honors the impact of blogging and the people behind the posts.
The Truth About Blogging
Creating a blog is no easy feat. Behind every well-written post are hours of research, writing, editing, formatting, and promoting. It can sometimes take an entire day or more to bring one article to life.
But for small businesses like mine… for founders, for artists, for creators, for thought leaders… that effort is an investment in visibility and the most powerful way we share our voice.
Unlike social media, blog posts don’t disappear or get buried after a while. They live on, building trust, improving search rankings, and helping the right people find us long after they’re written. Beyond digital strategy, it’s a space for clarity, creativity, and connection.
What The Data Says:
- 77% of internet users regularly read blogs.
- 70% would rather learn about a company through blogs than through ads.
- Websites with blogs have 434% more indexed pages than those without.
- Blogging increases inbound links by 97%.
- Businesses that blog see 67% more leads per month.
- Blog readers spend 3x longer engaging with blog content than social media.
To My Fellow Bloggers:
Do not forget the value of the work you do. The time, care, and intention you pour into your posts matters. It makes a difference and adds to something bigger.
To My Blog Readers:
Thank you for being here. We wouldn’t exist without you, and it sure feels good to be heard.
